Wike says police would start granting security clearance to Abuja bus and taxi drivers in 2025

Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, declared that starting in January 2025, commercial bus and taxi drivers in the FCT will have security clearance from the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services.

The action is meant to counter ‘one-chance’ robbery and kidnapping in Abuja. According to Wike, no commercial bus or taxi driver who has not had security agency clearance would be permitted to operate within the FCT.

According to him, the majority of motorcycle riders and Keke Napep are informants. Beginning in January, no bus or taxi driver will be allowed to operate without security’s consent; cars will be Abuja-colored and security profiles will be used.

In addition, Wike gave beneficiaries brand-new automobiles to operate as taxis, claiming that the government is helping families and lowering Abuja’s transportation expenses.
