After chanting about a sovereignty claim on Gibraltar, Spain’s Álvaro Morata and teammate Rodri were disciplined by UEFA.
During La Roja’s jubilation of winning the European Championship, Morata and Rodri shouted the song.
A disciplinary inspector “is being appointed to evaluate a potential violation” of UEFA rules by the two players, according to a statement released by the organisation on Friday.
On Monday, Morata and Rodri led a sizable assembly in singing “Gibraltar is Spanish.”
The festivities happened one day following Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the 2024 European Championship.
For nearly three centuries, the southernmost point of Spain, Gibraltar, has been a British overseas colony.
On Thursday, the Gibraltar football federation formally complained to UEFA.
