Udom did not take any action in the Akpabio senatorial district

Senate President Godswill Akpabio accused the immediate former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom, of neglecting to implement any projects in his Northwest Senatorial constituency despite being appointed governor.

Akpabio spoke on the Senate floor during a back-and-forth with Akpan Sampson, senator for Akwa Ibom South.

Udom, who replaced Akpabio, served as governor of Akwa Ibom from 2015 until 2023.

Sampson was contributing to a House of Representatives bill transmitted to the Senate that sought to establish a Federal Medical Center (FMC) in each state.

Sampson objected that his senatorial district was not included in the draft and urged that the legislation be scaled back so that all districts may be considered.

However, Akpabio believes Sampson should introduce legislation to establish an FMC in his senatorial constituency.

He stated: “I gave you a governor for eight years that did not do anything in my senatorial district. I am not criticising the governor — he did nothing in my senatorial district.

“So, if God gives you an opportunity to be in the Senate, sponsor a bill to establish a medical centre in Eket, and also add Ikot Ekpene. If you do not sponsor it, it cannot come to this stage.”
