The reason why players like Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, and Emile Smith Rowe are having trouble getting consistent playing time has been revealed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
This season, Smith Rowe has made just 16 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions; Nketiah and Nelson have also had very little opportunities.
Arteta was questioned about the reasons for the trio’s benching at Bramall Lane during his pre-match news conference ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League matchup against Brentford on Saturday.
He said, “We discussed things and we cannot play every player in every game.
“Those players played a few games ago against Newcastle and they had opportunities to do that.
“Now we have five subs, before we had only three, so we have another two players happy.
“That is the way I take it, but you always have players who want to be involved and play, but unfortunately it is impossible.
“It is not in our hands, it is impossible to achieve that so they know that.”
