The Nigerian government announces Friday and Monday to be public holidays

In observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively, the Federal Government has designated Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, as public holidays.

On behalf of the Federal Government, the statement was issued by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who urged Nigerians in general and Christians in particular to follow Jesus Christ’s example of selflessness and love by dying on the cross for the sake of humanity.

Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, stated in a statement on Wednesday that Easter fosters principles of love, forgiveness, and compassion, all of which are critical for societal peace and cohesion.

He exhorted Christians to adopt these values because they have the power to improve Nigeria’s socioeconomic growth by promoting harmony, lowering tensions, and promoting collaboration among Nigerians.

He also urged Nigerians to show kindness and generosity in order to improve the material circumstances of those who are less fortunate.

He said that this aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The minister also urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration’s efforts to bring about prosperity for everyone and sustainable development.
