The Federal Government expresses concern over increase in cyber threats

Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s national security adviser, has emphasized the growing risks of assaults on military networks, banking platforms, power and energy infrastructures, and telecommunications systems. Since any failure or disruption to the operation of these vital assets can have a substantial impact on security, public health and safety, and the social and economic well-being of Nigerians, he emphasized the necessity for all stakeholders to collaborate in order to confront these risks.

Ribadu also emphasized how the nation’s growing technological use has increased cyberthreats and hazards to vital national information infrastructure. He emphasized the risk of assaults on national databases, elections, military networks, banking platforms, power and energy grids, telecommunications systems, transportation systems, and digital systems.

Ribadu also emphasized the dangers of fraud and online financial schemes that are being carried out by dishonest people and organizations, which are harming the economy and reputation globally. He also pointed out the ongoing increase in the creation of internet platforms by dishonest people for illegal fundraising and spreading false information to provoke violence and create fear.

A nation like Nigeria cannot function without financial platforms, energy, telecommunications, and other vital infrastructures, Ribadu underlined. He underlined that vital infrastructure, which provides everything from services to telecommunications to power, is necessary for the nation to exist. He underlined the need of safeguarding and ensuring the functionality of key infrastructures, noting that although the nation has made strides, much more needs to be done to guarantee their continuous operation.
