Bayer Leverkusen sports director Simon Rolfes says he is “sure” Xabi Alonso will stay at the club beyond the summer, despite rumors connecting him with a return to Liverpool.
Speaking on Sport1 TV’s Doppelpass, Rolfes stated that he expects Alonso will return to the club next season to improve on his impressive performance thus far.
“Yes, I’m sure of that,” he said. “One [reason] is the contract, the other is how comfortable he feels, the family, himself. That he knows what he has in the club. That he knows that he has a very good team and that we will also have a very good prospect next year.
“That we are set up by the team in such a way that there is no upheaval because many players leave us, but that we have an absolute top team available, these are all points that, in addition to contracts coaches like Xabi, but also players who arouse interest from other clubs, often keep with us.”
