The widely known as Simi, a Nigerian musician, has contributed her voice to the ongoing anti-tax hike demonstrations in Kenya.
According to news sources, young Kenyans are participating in large-scale protests called “RejectFinanceBill2024” in opposition to tax increases.
Amnesty Kenya reports that following a police-protester conflict on Tuesday in Nairobi’s parliament building, five protestors were shot dead and numerous others were injured.
Simi responded on Tuesday night via her X Twitter, stating that she was in favor of the protesters.
She said that “it is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights.”
She added, “I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength. [Hash tag] RejectFinanceBill2024.”
She wrote in a number of additional posts: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.
“African leaders – haven’t you done enough?
“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”
