Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has compared the hype surrounding Ruben Amorim’s potential appointment to that of Erik ten Hag. Amorim is close to joining the club after Ten Hag was sacked. Scholes believes that United should have tried to hire Thomas Tuchel instead.
He believes Tuchel was the right candidate to coach Manchester United, as he has managed an elite football club and won big games. Scholes also compared Amorim’s charisma and success in the Portuguese league to Erik ten Hag, who joined the club after being sacked.
He believes Amorim’s appointment should have been considered.
Scholes said: “I think Thomas Tuchel was the right one to coach Manchester United, but obviously he’s gone now with England. He’s someone that can manage an elite football club and win big games. He’s been there and done it.”
He added: “On Ruben Amorim – [the hype] feels a bit like Erik ten Hag [joined Manchester United]. He’s coming from the Portuguese league which is a bit better than the Dutch league. What he’s done there has been good – he looks charismatic, and he has a bit about him.”
