Power Minister Adelabu said that because of the better power supply, Nigerians aren’t complaining as much about the N1000/litre petrol price

According to Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, people have stopped complaining about the increase in petrol prices since they no longer require it to run their generators because there is a steady supply of electricity. In Lagos, the NNPCL raised the pump price of petrol at its retail stores from N868 per litre to N968 per litre, and in certain other places, exceeding N1000.

This astronomical rise in petrol prices has led to a sharp increase in the cost of transportation, food items, and other essential household commodities in Nigeria. Adelabu stated that people no longer need to buy petrol again for power, which is why the noise is even at this level. He intends to ensure that all generators are replaced in line with the Lagos State Policy of Replacement of 1 Million Generators in One Year.

The minister lamented Nigeria’s abysmal performance in power generation, stating that the country added only 2000 megawatts of power to the national grid in the last 40 years dating back to 1984. He believes that Nigeria is still celebrating achieving the 5000MW milestone, which took almost 40 years to generate additional 2000MW from the 2000MW milestone in 1984.
