Plateau Crisis: DHQ cautions interest groups to avoid causing tension

The Defense Headquarters has issued a harsh warning to interest groups not to stir up tensions while the military works to restore peace and stability to unsettled Plateau regions.

Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, delivered the statement on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defense Staff, formed the fact-finding team, which was led by an experienced former senior military officer.

Gusau stated that the formation of the squad came after the deployment of military hardware, including highly skilled intelligence people and Special Forces, to difficult parts of the state to guarantee that perpetrators of heinous atrocities are brought to justice.

He stated that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, visited the state on Jan. 27 and gave the troops specific orders to deal forcefully with individuals fomenting disturbance, resulting in the loss of lives and property.

He stated that multiple intelligence-driven operations have resulted in the arrest of important individuals who are presently being interrogated.

“It is therefore pertinent to note that the team was constituted as part of the non-kinetic approach of the DHQ in resolving the situation.

“Also, the team’s responsibility spreads across troubled areas in the country and is not limited to Plateau state alone,” he added
