Paul Julius Dies, a Nigerian football player, died in an automobile accident in Cyprus

Paul Julius Goewam, a 20-year-old football player from Nigeria, perished in an automobile accident in Cyprus.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, close to Pernera, Julius’ car collided with a vehicle heading in the opposite direction when he was driving on the Paralimni-Protaras route, according to the police.

Three weeks ago, the gifted striker from Plateau State joined the Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni, having previously played for Egyptian team El Gaish.

In a moving statement, Enosis Neon Paralimni FC expressed their profound regret at the loss of their player, who in his short life had surmounted hardship to show amazing strength and resilience.

The statement reads “It is with deep sadness and pain that we express our sincere condolences on the unexpected loss of our footballer Paul Julius.”

“The tragic news of his death has shocked us all. Despite the hardships and sufferings, he faced to join our family, he remained steadfast and determined to fulfill his goals.

“His memory will live on in our hearts, and his absence will be felt. We are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.” The 74-year-old driver of the second vehicle is receiving medical attention in a hospital, although his condition is not life-threatening.
While the Famagusta Traffic Department looks into the incident, officers are pleading for witnesses to come forward.
