After scoring a goal against Ipswich Town on Saturday, Mohamed Salah, the winger for Liverpool, beat out players like Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, and Alan Shearer to create a new Premier League record.
In Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Portman Road, the Reds defeated Ipswich Town 2-0. Salah both scored and assisted on the goal.
Salah’s goal against Ipswich Town was his ninth on the Premier League’s first day.
According to AS, it moved the Egyptian ahead of Lampard, Rooney, and Shearer, who have all scored eight goals on the first day of a match in their careers.
In seven of Salah’s eight years at Anfield, he has scored in the opening league match.
The only occasion the 32-year-old failed to do so came in the first game of the previous campaign at Stamford Bridge vs Chelsea.
