Francesco Calzona, Napoli’s coach, has told Victor Osimhen and his colleagues that he will ‘not look at their names’ when selecting players for matches.
Calzona, who took over for Walter Mazzarri on Monday, benched star attackers Victor Osimhen and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 1-1 draw with Barcelona on Wednesday night.
The Serie A champions drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Round of 16 match at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Osimhen was replaced immediately after scoring the equalizer in the 75th minute.
The coach in an interview with Sky Sports Italia said: “I keep the players on the field who are doing well, I don’t look at their names,” Calzona also admitted that he was not tempted to keep Osimhen on after the equalizer.
“No, in fact I had been ready to take him off earlier, but due to a tactical issue, I kept him on for a few more minutes.”
