President Bola Tinubu has confirmed Mr. Olatunji Bello’s appointment as the new CEO and Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, subject to Senate approval.
Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s media aide, stated that Mr. Bello is a lawyer, administrator, and recognized journalist.
He is a former secretary of the Lagos State Government with a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos. He studied law at the same university and was admitted to the Nigerian bar in 2002.
Mr. Bello began his media career in 1985 with Concord Newspapers, where he served as Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and National Concord Editor.
He won the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship in the United States and was named Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001.
He has also served as Lagos State’s Commissioner for the Environment under several regimes.
Ngelale stated that the President expects the new CEO of this important agency to ensure the holistic implementation of the commission’s mandate of protecting and promoting the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers, as well as the adoption of measures to ensure the safety and quality of goods and services.
