Nigeria’s Super Eagles have risen 14 ranks to 28th in the February FIFA rating, following their AFCON silver medal success.
In the ranking chart released on the international football governing body’s website on Thursday, the squad received 1,522 points, compared to 1,474 points in December 2023.
The Super Eagles’ upward momentum propelled them to third position on the continent, trailing only Morocco and Senegal, which had 1663 (12th) and 1620 (17th) points, respectively.
However, recently crowned African champions Cote d’Ivoire reaped the benefits of their continental win on home turf, rising 10 positions to 39th place.
South Africa, the AFCON 2023 second-place finisher, advanced eight positions to 58th, while Egypt (36th), Cameroon (51st), and Ghana (67th) fell following early eliminations.
The Angolans, who were eliminated in the final eight (93rd, up 24), are the greatest risers in the current world standings.
In terms of points, two-time Asian Cup champions Qatar (37th, up 21) leads the way (92.04 points) after successfully defending their continental crown at home.
Jordan (70th, up 17), who were eliminated in the final, made significant progress, as did Thailand (101st, up 12), whose trip ended in the last-16 stage.
Qatar’s surge takes them into unknown territory, while two other teams achieve best-ever rankings.
Senegal (17th, up three points), which suffered a shoot-out loss to eventual victors Cote d’Ivoire in the AFCON Round of 16, established new history.
Tajikistan (99th, up 7) began their Asian Cup campaign by earning their first appearance in the top 100.
Other strong performers include Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9), South Africa (58th, up 8), Cabo Verde (65th, up 8), Namibia (107th, up 8), and Mali (47th, up 4).
