Nigerian border is reopened by Niger

Today, March 22, the Niger Republic’s administration has resumed activities at the Konni border.

This occurs one week after the Illela land border between Nigeria and the Niger Republic was opened by Nigerian Customs Service officials acting on an instruction from the President.

On Friday, the border was officially opened at precisely noon.

Remember that the Nigeria Customs Service recently reopened all air and land crossings throughout the country’s northern states in accordance with instructions from the federal government? More recently, the Konni-illela border in Sokoto State was reopened to allow for legal trade between the two nations.

Following the coup on July 26, 2023, members of the Economic Community of West African States blocked their borders with Niger. However, in February of this year, the penalties imposed upon them were withdrawn.
