Veteran musician and former member of The Remedies, Edward Ashiedu Brown, often known as Eddy Remedy, has claimed that his father was one among those who created the Nigerian national song.
He stated that his father, retired police officer Ashiedu Brown, was a member of the Nigeria Police Band that created the national song, but all credit was given to the band’s director, Benedict Elise Odiase.
The legendary singer stated that his father has yet to get any national recognition for his contributions to the national song.
Eddy Remedy said that his father’s terrible experience caused him to reject his son’s musical profession since he felt he would never be rewarded in Nigeria.
During a recent interview with Daddy Freeze, Eddy Remedy stated, “Now I understand why my dad didn’t want me to do music, because they did the same thing to him. My Dad was among those who wrote the national anthem. But what did he get? Did they give him any recognition? Instead, they gave all the credit to his boss, [Benedict] Odiase, who was the commissioner of Police then.”
