“My experience in prison changed the way I thought about freedom.” Omah Lay

The well-known Afrobeats artist Stanley Omah Didia, also referred to as Omah Lay, has talked candidly about how his time spent in prison in Uganda improved both his personal and professional life.

Newsmen note that on December 12, 2020, Omah Lay and Tems appeared at a concert at Speke Resort in Kampala, Uganda, in violation of COVID-19 social distancing laws. They were then taken into custody, charged with a crime, and sent in prison. After being held for three days, they were eventually released on bail.

Speaking in a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay stated that his jail experience shifted his perspective on freedom.

Omah Lay said “After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom.”
