It has been claimed by former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel that he is attempting to ‘encourage Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea’ rather than PSG or Manchester United.
Osimhen is expected to remain with the Italian team until 2026 after he’signed a new deal’ with them in December.
According to Sky Sports Italy, the 25-year-old’s contract now has a release clause valued between £104 million and £113 million.
Several of the best leagues in Europe, including Chelsea, are reportedly interested in signing him. Mikel claims to have pushed Osimhen to choose the London club over PSG and Manchester United.
‘I think there is genuine interest between both,’ Mikel said to Ben Jacobs at the Web Summit Qatar, when asked whether there was a chance Osimhen could move to Chelsea.
‘I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club.
‘Obviously, he wants to follow my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea – Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, not a lot of us.’ Mikel said.
‘I’m still Osimhen’s agent, trying to get him to Chelsea! I’ve got 20 per cent of that deal, so I hope it works out!’ The legend of Chelsea added a jokingly.
