Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappe’s unresolved wage dispute, which stands at €55 million, may force the team to withdraw from the Champions League.
Mbappe left the dominant teams in Ligue 1 this summer to become a free agent and sign with Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old no longer has a relationship with PSG, although he remains in contact with his former employers.
This is because Mbappe claims he is owed €55 million by the French champions.
He is reportedly entitled to his entire €36 million signing bonus, his final three months of pay, and a “ethics bonus” for April through June of 2024.
According to Le Monde, Mbappe’s attorneys have brought the case before the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) legal committee and UEFA, the organisation that oversees European football, via the French Football Federation (FFF) as a middleman.
PSG may be subject to a transfer ban by the LFP legal committee until the matter is settled.
UEFA has the authority to revoke a club’s licence in continental competition, and since Mbappe has invited them to the case, it is possible that PSG will not be allowed to compete in the Champions League.
