Despite maintaining that Lionel Messi is the “best” player in the world, Inter Miami head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino has announced Vinícius Júnior as this year’s Ballon d’Or winner.
Martino thinks Júnior and Rodri, a midfielder for Manchester City, should both receive the honor. Júnior contributed 11 assists and 24 goals to Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League victories.
Martino thinks Messi is the best player right now, even if Júnior had the advantage of being the best the previous season.
Martino said, “It [the Ballon d’Or] has never been something that caught my attention, nor was it clear to me whether the award is for the best in the world or of the year”
“Vinícius Júnior probably has the merit [of being the best last season], although if you ask me who is the best right now, it’s Messi.”
