Maresca deemed it more beneficial for Chukuemeka to depart during the summer

Enzo Maresca believes that Carney Chukwuemeka should leave Chelsea in the summer for first-team football due to his injury-prone time since signing from Aston Villa.

Chukwuemeka has only made one appearance for the Blues this season, a 14-minute cameo in their 5-0 win against Barrow.

Maresca believes Chukwuemeka is a good player but decided to leave to prove himself playing 30-35 games rather than playing less games.

However, Chukwuemeka’s absence from the team has not been a concern, and Maresca hopes to give him more minutes in the future.

He stated, “I think Carney is a very good player,” Maresca speaking after his side’s 4-2 win against Brighton.

“But for the amount of players that we have, we decided at the beginning of the season that for him it was probably better to leave and go somewhere to prove himself playing 30-35 games than to be here and play less games.

“Then unfortunately it didn’t happen. He’s one of our players. He had some minutes the other day and today he was not involved. Hopefully, we can give him more minutes.”
