Following a complaint filed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over treatment of the Super Eagles in Libya, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rendered a decision that may have resulted in mass arrests and fines for Nigerians in Libya.
After arriving for the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification against the Mediterannean Knights, the Nigerian men’s national team was held at Al-Abraq Airport for more than twenty hours. The Super Eagles received three goals and three points from CAF’s disciplinary committee for the postponed match.
Nasser Al-Suwai’I, the president of the LFF, called the decision “unjust and malicious” and claimed that the NFF’s power within CAF was a significant factor in the result. Nigerian workers working in Libya without legal documents should be arrested and forced to pay $500 plus taxes, according to Libya News Today 1, a Libyan news site.
The government should arrest all Nigerians working in Libya so they can pay the $500 tax and get residency papers, a Libyan TV host said.
