Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Lagos state in the general election of 2023, has said that Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, is the leader Nigeria needs.
But Rhodes-Vivour noted that Obi is not the politician we need in an interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast.
“Peter Obi is the leader that we need for Nigeria, but not the politician we need for us.
“Peter does not buy votes. He won Lagos without buying votes,” Rhodes-Vivour said.
In the previous year’s vote, Obi came in third, behind Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu.
Rhodes-Vivour, for his part, lost to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the governorship race.
Rhodes-Vivour challenged the election results to the Supreme Court, where a five-member panel dismissed two separate appeals contesting Sanwo-Olu’s victory and, in a unanimous decision rendered in January 2024, upheld the declaration of Olu as the victor of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.
