Only fifteen days after turning 100, former US President Jimmy Carter voted in the US election on October 16.
The former head of the Democratic Party cast his mail-in ballot, granting his earlier wish to live long enough to cast a ballot for Kamala Harris. Carter, who is receiving hospice care in his home state of Georgia, took advantage of early voting.
Earlier this year, he had admitted to his family that his centenary was not as important to him as surviving long enough to support Harris and help her defeat her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. Since early voting started on October 15, more than 420,000 voters had cast ballots.
Since February of last year, Carter, a one-term president, has been receiving end-of-life care in Plains, the location of his birth. He is the first former president of the United States to turn 100.
