Kalvin Phillips, an England international, has criticized Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for commenting on his weight.
The Manchester City midfielder signed on loan with West Ham in January after the two Premier League teams negotiated a deal.
Phillips has only made 31 appearances under Pep Guardiola since his £45 million signing from Leeds in July 2022.
Guardiola revealed in December that he does not see the England midfielder joining his club.
He accused the England international of getting overweight, implying that he did not workout properly.
Phillips previously expressed displeasure with the comment when speaking with the BBC, and in a quote shared by football expert Fabrizio Romano on Sunday, the midfielder stated that the manager’s comment did not sit well with his mother.
“When Pep came out and said I was overweight, he was right to do so, but there are different ways to go about it,” he said.
“I did not disagree but it took a big knock on my confidence. My family were not happy about it, either. Especially my mum.”
