Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has signed the N75,000 minimum wage into law, directing payment within 72 hours

The signing of a N75,000 minimum salary for state employees by Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris marks a critical turning point in the history of the nation. In front of the National Labour Congress (NLC) leaders, who were led by National President Joe Ajaero, the new wage was signed in Birnin Kebbi. Idris promised that the increased pay will help all workers in the state and underlined its significance. In addition, he promised that he would not fail Kebbi workers and that he would not be in debt for death benefits, leave grants, pensions, or gratuities.

The governor praised workers, organised labour, and the Minimum Wage Committee for their dedication to their state duties. Thanking the governor for not letting the union down, Ajaero urged other governors to follow in his footsteps and make significant progress in the state. He underlined that because of its strategic location, Kebbi does not have a 13% derivation allocation and is not among the states with the highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Idris’ support for the higher salary is a big step in the right direction for the state and its citizens. He added that states with higher income advantages are unable to authorize more than N70,000.
