Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota is chosen by Kamala Harris to be her running mate

Prior to the November election, Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, has been announced as Kamala Harris’ running mate. Harris is the de facto Democratic contender for US president.

The announcement puts an end to rumours about Harris’s intention to challenge Republican contender and former president Donald Trump, as well as his choice of Ohio senator JD Vance for vice president.

In a congressional district with a Republican leaning, Walz stunned the incumbent when he first filed for office in 2006.

He was elected governor of Minnesota twice, first in 2018 and again in 2022. Massive victories for progressive legislation, such as legalized marijuana, universal meals, gun control, and abortion rights, have been achieved in the state under his direction in recent years.

He taught high school geography in Mankato, Minnesota, prior to entering the political field. He spent 24 years as an Army National Guard member as well.
