Gov. Adeleke supports the decision to remove Damagum as acting PDP National Chairman

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has supported the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) resolution to dismiss interim National Chairman Umar Damagum.

The PDP Governors’ Forum announced Damagum’s removal in order to make room for a member from North Central to succeed the ousted Iyorchia Ayu, the previous national chairman, in 2022. Nonetheless, a few governors have stated that they back Damagum.

Adeleke declared his support for the PDP Governors’ Forum decision and the party constitution, which specify exactly what happens in the event that an elected chairman steps down.

He underlined that in order to create a responsible political party, members must uphold the party’s constitution.

In a statement released on Thursday by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, Governor Adeleke stated his stance, “by the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum of which I am an integral part”.

“I stand by the Constitution of our great party which clearly spelt out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman.

“Our party must adhere to its Constitution at this critical time and at all times. That is the way to build a responsible political party”.
