Following his meeting with King Charles, Kier Starmer assumes the office of prime minister for Britain

Sir Keir Starmer has officially taken over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after meeting with King Charles II on Friday in the monarch’s Audience Room at Buckingham Palace in London.

Following the private meeting, Starmer left the Palace at approximately 12.25pm (11.25 UK time) for No. 10, Downing Street, London, to formally accept office and address the nation.

Speaking to the nation from London shortly after the election results confirmed Labour’s majority, Starmer detailed his vision for an era of “national renewal” under his leadership.

He says “Change begins now. And it feels good, I have to be honest,” he declared in his victory speech. “A mandate like this comes with a great responsibility. Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold this country together. National renewal.”

As Labour surpassed the 326-seat barrier required for a parliamentary majority, Starmer stressed the need to reestablish confidence and unity across the country. “Whoever you are, wherever you start in life, if you work hard, if you play by the rules, this country should give you a fair chance to get on,” he added.
