FEC merges culture and tourism ministries, scrapping the Niger Delta and sports ministries

Following a council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has announced the dissolution of the Ministries of Niger Delta and Sports Development.

The National Sports Commission, which will supervise sports activities throughout Nigeria, will take over the duties previously held by the Ministry of Sports Development. All regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission (NWDC), South West Development Commission (SWDC), and North East Development Commission (NEDC), will be overseen by the recently formed Ministry of Regional Development.

In an effort to increase efficiency and simplify governance in these areas, the FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. With an emphasis on maintaining moral principles and thwarting corruption in the public sector, Abdullahi Bello, the newly appointed Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), will direct the bureau’s activities.

President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery across vital sectors and streamline government operations are indicated by the reorganization of ministries and agencies.
