According to The Guardian, Liverpool has considered Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton as a possible Jurgen Klopp replacement in the event that their primary target, Xabi Alonso, is not appointed.
Following his incredible effect at Bayer Leverkusen, who are eight points ahead in the Bundesliga, Alonso has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Klopp, who is stepping down at the end of the season.
The former Liverpool midfielder is not guaranteed to accept the position, though, since Alonso may spend another season at Leverkusen and Bayern Munich is also a possibility given that Thomas Tuchel is departing at the conclusion of the year.
De Zerbi has joined a list that also includes Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, indicating that Liverpool needs backup plans.
Manchester United is rumored to be interested in De Zerbi, who has shown promise since joining Brighton last season, should Erik ten Hag be fired.
Speaking on Friday, De Zerbi emphasized that he is now focused on his work at Brighton and that he has not made any decisions on his future.
