Coleman was fired as manager of Accrington

John Coleman was fired by Accrington after almost ten years in leadership.

Coleman and Jimmy Bell, the assistant manager, have had their contracts “terminated with immediate effect,” according to a brief statement posted on the team website.

Their departure follows Saturday’s 4-0 loss to Wrexham by Accrington, which dropped Stanley to 16th place in the Sky Bet League Two standings.

According to the statement: “Accrington Stanley can today confirm that John Coleman and Jimmy Bell have been informed that their contracts are terminated with immediate effect.

“Everyone at the club thanks them for their long-standing service and we wish them all the very best for the future.”

Coleman took over the club from 1999 and 2012, leading them into the Football League after a 44-year hiatus. With his resignation, he ends his second stint with Accrington.

After making a comeback to Stanley in September 2014, he assisted them in winning League Two in 2018, although they were demoted from the third division the following season.

Coleman has been the EFL’s second-longest-serving manager, trailing only Simon Weaver of Harrogate, who spent a large portion of his time in non-league football.
