Cancelo calls Man City ‘ungrateful’

Joao Cancelo said that Manchester City was “ungrateful” and that “lies were told” over his departure from the team.

After spending time at Bayern Munich in the second part of the previous season, the Portugal full-back is presently on a season-long loan at Barcelona.

Prior to his abrupt departure from Germany on January 20, 2023, Cancelo was an important member of manager Pep Guardiola’s team.

Subsequent rumors surfaced indicating that Cancelo, who had lost ground to Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake in the hierarchy, had caused havoc in the locker room.

The 29-year-old stated to the Portuguese sports daily A Bola: “There were fabrications. You may ask Ake or Rico about me; I was never a lousy friend. I don’t regard them with any sense of superiority or inferiority.

“I think Manchester City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that because I was a very important player in the years I was there.

“I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans. I always gave everything.”
