The White House has denied allegations that President Joe Biden is considering leaving the presidential race.
Andrew Bates, the White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President, called the New York Times claim fake.
Bates posted on X saying: “This claim is absolutely false and if we had been given more than 7 minutes we could have communicated this before it was publicized.
“That claim is absolutely false. If the New York Times had provided us with more than 7 minutes to comment we would have told them so.”
Bates was reacting to a New York Times report that Biden has informed his allies that he is considering leaving the presidential race.
The newspaper article cited an unidentified source stating of Biden, “He knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place,” referencing Biden’s dismal performance in the presidential debate last week.
According to the publication, the president’s talk is the first sign that he is really pondering whether he can return from his disastrous performance on the Atlanta debate stage.
According to Biden’s associate, the president recognized that he faced a difficult task in convincing voters, fundraisers, and the political elite that his debate performance was an outlier.
It further stated that President Biden had warned a close ally that he understood he might not be able to save his candidacy if he could not persuade the public in the coming days that he is qualified for the post following a poor debate performance last week.
The president, who, according to the ally, is still very much in the race for reelection, understands that his next few appearances leading up to the holiday weekend must go well, particularly an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Friday and campaign stops in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
