Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, was required to appear for trial by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 20.
The former governor is to be charged with N80 billion in fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Abuja in April.
Alongside Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, three other accused, he was charged with 19 counts of money laundering.
This came after the court on April 17 issued an arrest warrant and enrolment order to the EFCC.
Bello has previously requested that his arrest be halted from the Kogi State High Court.
The order was issued by the appellate court in response to an appeal brought by the EFCC against the lower court’s decision, rendered by Justice Isah Abdullahi Jamil, that barred the commission from apprehending Bello.
The appellate court also barred the former governor from acting on the allegations against him until he was formally charged, according to Justice Ken Amadi’s decision.
The lower court’s decision, which maintained that the Bello’s criminal trial was being postponed, was deemed disgraceful by him.
