Darwin Nunez’s strike in the 99th minute gave Liverpool a thrilling 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, and Alexis Mac Allister captured the “special” vibe of the match.
Stoppage time was running out in a fiercely contested Premier League match at the City Ground on Saturday, and it looked like it was going to end in a draw.
However, in the Reds’ last assault, Nunez, a replacement, met Mac Allister’s tempting ball into the Forest area with a glancing header into the bottom corner.
With the victory, Jürgen Klopp’s team now leads the standings by four points, ahead of Sunday’s match between Manchester City and Monday’s matchup between Arsenal and Chelsea.
After the match Mac Allister said ‘So, a special day for us. To win it like that is not easy, we came to a tough place. In that moment I knew it was the last minute and I just had to put it in [the box]. Then Darwin did the rest. As always, he’s an important player for us. He’s back, so we are very happy.’
