Human rights advocate and social critic Aisha Yesufu has said that President Bola Tinubu’s government intends to pretend until it gets the United Arab Emirates, UAE, to relax the restriction on Nigerian visas.
The announcement follows rumors that the UAE has removed its prohibition on Nigerian nationals obtaining visas.
However, the report’s claimed author, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, has stressed that the restriction hasn’t been removed yet.
But on Wednesday, Yesufu claimed on her X account that the administration was trying to fake it.
“Tinubu’s illegitimate government wants to fake it until they make it!,” She wrote.
Newsmen notes that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) prohibited entry into its borders for nationals of 19 other African nations, including Nigeria, in October 2022.
