After defeating Portugal in the 2024 Euro, Georgian players get $10 million

Bidzina Ivanishvili, a wealthy and influential oligarch from Georgia, made a $10 million pledge to the national team after their 2-0 victory against Portugal on Wednesday night in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

As a result, they made it to their first-ever Euro 2024 round of sixteen.

Men led by Willy Sagnol advanced from Group F as one of the top four finishers in third place.

After winning every game in their group, they will now play Spain on Sunday in the Round of 16.

In a statement, the ruling Georgian Dream party claimed that its “honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili will award Georgia’s football team 30 million lari ($10.7 million) for qualifying for the last 16 of Euro 2024.”

It said, “In the event of a victory over Spain, an additional 30 million lari will be awarded.”

The richest individual in Georgia, Ivanishvili, amassed his wealth in Russia throughout the 1990s.
