Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles coach, has replied to statements made by former AS Roma and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, or AFCON, final.
Mourinho expressed his support for his compatriot and the Super Eagles to win the 2023 AFCON while appearing on Rio Ferdinand’s ‘FIVE’ podcast.
“My best friend in football is in the final (AFCON). The Nigerian coach is my best friend. He grew up with me, we studied together. We went to University on the same day, we spent five years together,” Mourinho had said.
When questioned about Mourinho’s statement, Peseiro informed reporters before the start of the AFCON final: “Of course I spoke with him; I speak with him many times.
“I am his friend; he is a genius in football. I am happy because he supports me.
“He is my friend, it is good for us.”
