William Troost-Ekong became the top scoring defender in Africa Cup of Nations history on Sunday night, scoring in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
Troost-Ekong put the Super Eagles ahead in the 37th minute.
Troost-Ekong was selected Player of the Tournament.
However, Jose Peseiro’s team lost the game to Elephants after conceding twice in the second half.
The goal was the centre-back third in the competition.
The 30-year-old has already scored five goals in the AFCON finals.
