On Wednesday, AC Milan players and coaches received Samuel Chukwueze like a hero when he returned from the AFCON.
Chukwueze competed in the Coppa Italia against Cagliari before departing Milan on January 2 for an international duty.
Nigeria, the three-time winners, went to the continental championship final for the first time in eleven years, with the 24-year-old starting five of their seven matches.
Chukwueze was met with a burst of applause in a video posted on the club X Twitter account. Rafael Leao, the Portuguese superstar, seems particularly pleased to meet his Nigerian teammate.
After Leao rushed to greet Chukwueze, others joined in wishing the Eagles winger a speedy return from Africa.
Stefano Pioli has ruled the Nigerian out of Milan’s UEFA Europa League knockout round encounter against French club Rennes on Thursday (today).
He stated on AC Milan’s official website, “I know that I have players coming off the bench who can change a game, but it’s also true that making choices and excluding players is always difficult.”
“Chukwueze is back with us; hopefully he’ll be ready for Monza, but he won’t be in the squad tomorrow (today).”
