A Chinese movie inspired my stage name– Shallipopi

Crown Uzama, nicknamed Shallipopi, a popular Nigerian musician, has disclosed that his stage name was inspired by Shaolin Popey, a 1994 Chinese kung fu comedy film.

In a recent interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, the singer said that he tried using his birth name, Crown, and nicknames like Drip Face as a stage name before landing on Shallipopi.

“I was looking for [stage] name, so I was like let me coin something from the movie Shaolin Popey, that’s how I came up with my nickname,” he said.

Shallipopi also stated that his genre is “afro-talk” rather than Afrobeats.

He describes himself as a talker rather than a rapper.
