The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Command, EFCC, has detained 41 people and seized 12 vehicles in Kwara State for allegedly transporting various types of solid minerals illegally.
The offense is punished by life imprisonment under Section 1(8)(b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, 1983, according to an anti-graft agency statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The EFCC had warned that it will be uncompromising in its campaign against corruption, just as it is dismantling the rings of illicit mining operations across the country.
Aside from the law, which prohibits illegal mining activities, the act is an economic sabotage capable of creating environmental damage, socioeconomic misery, insecurity, banditry, and a variety of other vices.
