Ryan Wesley Routh, the would-be assassin of Donald Trump, has revealed in a disturbing letter that he was unsuccessful in his attempt to kill the president.
Written to the “World,” the letter makes a $150,000 offer to anyone who can “finish the job.” Routh argues that US presidents should be courteous, kind, and unselfish, and that Trump is unfit to be president of the United States, let alone anything else.
According to the Department of Justice, Routh penned the letter months prior and left it in a box at someone’s house with some metal pipes and ammo. Along with having a list of Trump’s forthcoming public appearances, Routh—who is currently being investigated as a suspect in the assassination attempt—also had Googled a route from Palm Beach, Florida, to Mexico.
Following the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on September 15, Routh is scheduled to appear in federal court for a detention hearing.
In a written factual proffer, federal prosecutors provided fresh information regarding the day Routh attempted to kill Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course. A witness observed Routh sprint across Summit Boulevard in the direction of a black Nissan Xterra with a Florida license plate, and they snapped pictures of the car.
Six cellphones, twelve pairs of gloves, a Hawaiian driver’s license under Routh’s name, a list of Trump’s public appearances in August, September, and October, and a notebook containing names and phone numbers related to Ukraine, conversations about going to war on behalf of the country, and criticisms of the Chinese and Russian governments were discovered by local law enforcement.
