General Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former head of state, has cautioned that Nigeria’s economic difficulties are getting out of hand and has pushed the government to take immediate action.
According to Abubakar, Nigerians’ lives are becoming harder because they cannot afford three square meals, there are problems with transportation, fuel prices are rising, and there are increase in school fees.
He called on the federal, state, and local governments to collaborate in order to alleviate the burden and for the government to enact measures to do so.
Additionally, Abubakar said that he was a member of a panel that had advised the national government on how to lessen the country’s economic suffering.
The forum encouraged the government to purchase and sell food at reduced costs and enable people to purchase food according to their income, he proposed that the government should saturate and flood localities with food. He hopes that the government will put these ideas into practice.
