Police in Kano report that a mother and her five children died after consuming a local delicacy

Six family members in the Gwarzo traditional Government Area of the state perished after consuming danwake, a traditional delicacy, according to confirmation from the Kano State Police Command.

After consuming the allegedly infected dish, Alhakatu Abdulkarim, a widow, and her five children—Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu—passed away within a few hours.

According to Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesman for the Kano Police Command, who verified the sad event on Sunday, the victims were taken to Gwarzo General Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced them dead.

Haruna did, however, add that an inquiry has been started by the Command to solve the mystery behind the fatalities.

He said “We are still waiting for the medical report from the hospital to ascertain the cause of the death of the six persons.”
