Police in Akwa Ibom ask protest organisers to provide a schedule of events

Waheed Ayilara, the commissioner of police for Akwa Ibom State, has urged the protest organisers to give the command the information it needs to ensure proper security, including the routes and points of confluence.

This was said in a statement made on Monday in Uyo by Police Public Relations Officer ASP Timfon John.

According to ASP John, the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had directed all police commands to make security measures before to the start of the protest, and this was what the Commissioner of Police had done.

She states that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in accordance with Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s directive, is calling on all protest organisers to give details of their activities for security arrangements prior to the protest’s start date. The protest is slated to take place from August 1 to August 10, with the theme “End Bad Governance.”

She stated that the command requires them to provide specifics of the incident to the command’s public relations officer’s office. “proposed assembling point and routes; expected duration of the protest; names and contact details of protest leaders and organisers; and measures to prevent hijack by criminal elements.”

She asked the planned protest organisers and participants to work with law enforcement to make sure the planned demonstration is conducted peacefully and isn’t manipulated by dishonest people.

She asked protesters to uphold the sacredness of authorised assemblies and public meetings and to abstain from actions that could jeopardise the state’s ability to maintain law and order.
