Labour leaders’ explanation for accepting the N70,000 minimum wage

Arrangement Labour leaders have affirmed their acceptance of President Bola Tinubu’s minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers.

On Thursday, July 18, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said that the President had made the announcement earlier in the day during a meeting with labour leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Following the meeting, Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other labour officials from Nigeria stated that the unions had accepted the offer due to additional incentives included.

He added that the president’s pledge of a review every three years, as opposed to what was previously possible, is another factor in his decision to accept the offer.
